Honey Bees Returning, The Bees return is such Good News, after loosing half our Bees a few years ago, prior to Solstice, this Solstice 2010 i'm overjoyed to tell you, a swarm is setting up Hive in one of our compost bins. Bees often Swarm around this time of year, leaving a populated hive with a Virgin Queen to set up a new colony They seem very happy & to be gathering plenty of pollen & nectar from nearby countryside, and flowers in local gardens, which unlike ours, are not organic, so fingers crossed. Nevertheless, i'll not be treating them with any chemicals, nor take their honey, and will allow them to do as they will naturally. In the wood a couple of miles away, two colonies of wild honey bees have survived for around 14 years, giving off swarms, of which, this may be one, & are doing well left to their own devices, so i hope this new Queen will have success too & do likewise. By the way you can see some of the honey bees invert once in the opening, they're creating their Comb in the Lid, which is just ajar sufficiently as to leave coincidentally, "Bee Space", though i wonder if this could be enlarged a little, as the queue to enter becomes quite extended on occasions.
